For your ‘Program of Study’, choose ‘College of Medicine’

Choose ‘Medical Sciences, Degree Name – Doctor of Philosophy’

Select Term ‘Fall XXXX’ from the drop-down, then click ‘save and confirm’ and you will be routed to the next page in the application where you will choose your concentration.

Choose the concentration you are most interested in from the drop-down list under ‘Additional Information’. The concentration you are admitted to may not be your final choice; the rotations students participate in will help you narrow down your choices. You may outline up to 3 concentrations within your personal statement, if you are highly interested in more than one.

You can leave the ‘Program Specialization’ and ‘Department Contact’ sections blank.

Official transcripts ARE NOT REQUIRED with your application submission. Unofficial transcripts are accepted for the admissions committee review process; please upload them in the appropriate area of the application.  If you have received a degree from UF or are currently enrolled in a degree seeking program at UF, you MUST upload an unofficial copy of those transcripts to your application. The UF Graduate School application system is outsourced to a third-party company, therefore UF transcripts WILL NOT automatically be combined/connected to your application. Official transcripts must be submitted directly to the University of Florida, Office of Admissions by all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended.

International Applicants: The University has additional requirements for international transcripts. International applicants must submit to the Office of Admissions an official copy in the native language of each transcript, a mark sheet, and a diploma/degree certificate from each university or college attended, along with certified, literal (exact) English translations for documents not originally issued in English.

The UF COM BMS PhD program’s admissions committee is looking for a personal statement that highlights an applicant’s research experience, potential to succeed in the program, and a fit with the scientific and cultural environment. The personal statement should be no longer than one page, single spaced with 0.5 inch margins, where a strong personal statement will communicate: a clear motivation for pursuing a PhD and how it will benefit the applicant’s future career goals; evidence of deep engagement with research and a coherent scientific explanation of what was learned from these experiences;  articulation of a candidate’s genuine excitement/passion about research/scientific questions that highlights their intellectual curiosity; personal qualities that will allow a candidate to succeed in graduate school and their future career goals; a clear, well-defined research interest that aligns with the program’s scientific focus and concentration areas, as well as with the expertise of the faculty mentors available at the time of application.

You may also include up to 3 concentrations of interest within your personal statement. The application only allows you to choose 1 concentration from the drop down list, so you may wish to outline additional concentrations that you’d like to be considered for here.

Recommendation letters must be submitted online via the University of Florida Application System.  Paper letters will not be accepted. Please be sure to complete the recommenders section within the application in order for your recommenders to submit their letters via the link they receive via email.  The most useful letters come from faculty members who know you well.  If you performed research, we expect a letter from the faculty member who oversaw your research.  Letters from employers who are not faculty members are generally not helpful for graduate admission. Letters ideally are from faculty who hold a doctoral degree (i.e., teaching assistants are not appropriate).

Letters of Recommendation must be submitted on an official letterhead and include an actual (electronic) signature. Please be sure to communicate this requirement with your intended recommenders.

If a recommender was not included in your original application, the program may accept letters of recommendation from the recommender in the form of an official business letterhead, sent from an official business email to the admissions inbox.

GRE
The Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences no longer requires a GRE score for admission. 

English Proficiency
All international applicants will be required to provide English Proficiency Test Scores and meet the minimum score requirements. Students from countries where English is the only official language, who have attended non-US institutions where the only official language of instruction is English, or who have earned a degree within the United States may qualify for an exemption. The university does not accept scores compiled from multiple tests to meet English proficiency requirements. Unofficial test scores are accepted for the admissions committee review process.  Candidates who receive and accept a program offer will be required to submit official English proficiency test scores PRIOR to fall enrollment.

A nonrefundable application fee of $30 must be paid online at the time you submit your application. At this time, the program does not offer fee waivers to applicants for any reason.

International students must submit the following documents:

Language Scores: Official TOEFL or IELTS Scores. We will not accept any other tests or substitutes. We will not accept unofficial score reports.

Minimum scores: TOEFL—550 (paper), 80 (internet & Home edition), IELTS—6.5

Applicants who have successfully completed a graduate degree within the US or who are from countries where English is the only official language and have attended non-US institutions where the language of instruction is English may not need to submit language tests scores.

Transcripts and Degree Certificates: The university has additional requirements for international transcripts.
