We recommend that you walk through these steps carefully, taking the time to read all of the additional information provided!
Step 1: Apply via the University of Florida Graduate School
How to find the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences in the application system:
- For your ‘Program of Study’, choose ‘College of Medicine’
- Choose ‘Medical Sciences, Degree Name – Doctor of Philosophy’
- Select Term ‘Fall 2022’ from the drop-down, then click ‘save and confirm’ and you will be routed to the next page in the application where you will choose your concentration
- Chose your PRIMARY concentration of interest from the drop-down list under ‘Additional Information’
- You can leave the ‘Program Specialization’ and ‘Department Contact’ sections blank
Step 2: Transcripts
Official transcripts ARE NOT REQUIRED with your application submission. Unofficial transcripts are accepted for the admissions committee review process; please upload them in the appropriate area of the application. Candidates who receive and accept a program offer will be required to submit official transcripts PRIOR to fall enrollment. Official transcripts must be submitted directly to the University of Florida, Office of Admissions by all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended. All transcripts submitted by the student will be considered unofficial.
Official transcripts should be mailed directly to :
University of Florida, Office of Admissions
201 Criser Hall, P. O. Box 114000
Gainesville, FL 32611-4000
USA
Step 3: Statement of Purpose **REQUIRED**
The statement of purpose carries great weight with the admissions committee. Your statement of purpose should describe your research experience, research interests and your purpose for pursuing graduate school. It is also recommended that you list graduate faculty whose research interests you. Please note, there is NO WORD LIMIT on the statement of purpose. We are aware that the UF Graduate School Application indicates that there is a word limit, however this is NOT the case. We strongly encourage you to NOT limit your statement of purpose so that our admissions committee can ‘get to know you’ well.
Step 4: Three (3) Letters of Recommendation **REQUIRED**
Must contain a letter from any/all research mentors who oversaw your research
Recommendation letters must be submitted online via the University of Florida Application System. Paper letters will not be accepted. The most useful letters come from faculty members who know you well. If you performed research, we expect a letter from the faculty member who oversaw your research; applications without a letter from your research mentor will be placed on hold until their letter is submitted via the online recommendation letter system. Letters from employers who are not faculty members are generally not helpful for graduate admission. Letters ideally are from faculty who hold a doctoral degree (i.e., teaching assistants are not appropriate).
Step 5: GRE and English Proficiency
GRE
The Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences NO LONGER REQUIRES A GRE SCORE FOR ADMISSION. Please note, all GRE scores will be removed from the application before being reviewed by the admissions committee.
English Proficiency
All applicants from countries in which the official language is not English are required to submit official evidence of English language proficiency. Acceptable tests are the TOEFL and IELTS. Unofficial test scores are accepted for the admissions committee review process. Candidates who receive and accept a program offer will be required to submit official English roficiency test scores PRIOR to fall enrollment.
The University of Florida’s school code for test score submission is 5812
Step 6: Application Fee
A nonrefundable application fee of $30 must be paid online at the time you submit your application.
Please Note – Your application is NOT considered complete until all required documents have been received, including the minimum of 3 recommendation letters.
