Jacqueline Abranches, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Oral Biology

Research Description:

In the Abranches lab, our projects range from basic science projects employing basic microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry approaches to clinical translational projects where patient samples and new treatment approaches are tested in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo. Our main research focus is on the cavity causing Gram-positive bacterium Streptococcus mutans and on the yeast pathobiont Candida albicans. We explore the synergism between these two microbes during disease initiation and progression.

Topics of Interest:

  • bacterial pathogenesis
  • biofilms
  • translational research
  • microbial physiology
