Research Description:
Our program focuses on lung innate immune responses - complement cascade and alveolar epithelial cells in cigarette smokers and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficient individuals. We use complementary in-vivo and ex-vivo models combining transgenic complement deficient and Alpha-1 deficient mice, epithelial organoid assays, and primary human specimens from COPD and Alpha-1 individuals.
Topics of Interest:
- Innate lung immunity
- Complement
- Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency
- Emphysema
- alveolar epithelial cells
